The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) has grown exponentially since its inception in 1967. This show garners over 2.0 million net square feet of exhibit area which competes as the largest show floor in the annals of trade show history. Not only are the coverage area and its dimensions astonishing, also are the numbers of attendees and exhibitors that go all out each year showing the latest technology advancements, video capabilities of pocket sized cameras, gaming applications on remote servers and television quality that completely surpasses the very minds of millions of enthusiasts each year. Moving forward with greater numbers and exhibitors, the Consumer Electronic Show hosted and produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) will be celebrating its 41st anniversary in 2008.

The first Consumer Electronic Show began in 1967 in
New York City. From 1978 to 1994, CES was held twice each year: once in January in Las Vegas ( http://las-vegas.ixs.net/ ) known as Winter Consumer Electronics Show (WCES) and once in June in Chicago, Illinois known as Summer Consumer Electronics Show (SCES). In 1995, the show changed to a once a year format with Las Vegas as the location. And from 1995 onwards, Las Vegas has become the home of one of the most viewed and anticipated shows in the world. International visitors have to ensure booking of hotels months in advance to get a personal view of the latest gadgetry available for purchase.

Each year brings a different turn and product line to the consumers. In its nascent years, the show introduced revolutionary product lines like the digital cameras and a multitude of phone sets with ample features and software applications. The scenario and product and services line up has changed exponentially. An extensive array of home theater systems, improved applications, video output units, gaming applications and servers, basic networking devises that connect any where any time are now the part of the CES. The CES brings to the world the entire technology revolution in one city.

During the four days, the Venetian in Las Vegas will be inundated with students, geeks, professionals and international visitors all running around the exhibition halls and conference room areas. Along side the product and services being the main central attraction of the CES for many years, the quality of companies involved and the list of speakers have also started creating ripples in the market as well. Bill Gates, Chairman Microsoft, DELL CEO and Paul Otellini, CEO Intel Corporation and a plethora of other senior spokesmen of companies that thrive in providing consumers with applications, systems and infrastructure that allows for faster, reliable, advanced and sophisticated mechanisms of data communication have all been present to speak to massive audiences over the last few CES years.

One of the reasons why there is such a strong influx of visitors is the irresistible gadget line of products ranging from MP3 players to remote video conference tools. IPod, Palm and other items that become household names were once displayed at this copious platform. The Consumer Electronic Show is known as the ultimate Emmys Award show but instead of actors, it is the devises that do the performing. And in actuality, there is an exceptional award for technology labeled as the Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards honor achievements in Science & Technology for Television and Advanced Media Technology, which includes awards for best use by commercials as well as programmers.

The Consumer Electronic Show really has several key agendas that come into play during the four days. First of all, it invites key speakers that are working closing to bridge the gap of human interaction requirements with technology manufacturing. These speakers in term pave the way for the future. Their speeches invigorate the next platforms and spark the revolution for many new items on the display channels. Millions of viewers are lined up to learn more about the products and how the products can in turn assist them. Can these products provide better viewing capabilities? Can the pictures be rotated in a 3 –dimensional mode? Can music transgress hundreds of yards? Can I remotely turn on my MP3 from my bedroom? Thousands of questions came answered at the trade show.

Secondly, the CES provides a platform for companies to come close to their customers without any sales, counters or third party avenues involved. The product heads of products can meet with their ultimate customer and further hone and strengthen the services and technology. The success of thousands of products stem from these interactions alone.
